Number Games.
My dilemma began when my father convinced me to seek advice from a master. The purpose of the consultation was to seek direction from him to ensure that I had a smooth year ahead of me.
Out of the four main areas that he had pointed out to me, there were two particularly intrigues me.
1. You have too many spectacles.
2. You should clear your shoes from the shoes rack, probably indicating that I had too many shoe and that I should discard those that I will not/never wear.
How could I have too many spectacles when all I have was six pairs? It was not enough to even rotate for an entire week. If you count the number of shoes that I have, I have only hmmmm… seven? It is not a number that I think Carrie Bradshaw (from Sex & the City for the benefits of the younger readers) will approve of. And I am a far cry from the 2,700 pairs of shoes that Imelda Marcos owned. That is what I considers many, or maybe too much.
a part of Imelda Marco's collection
That led me to my question: How much is too much?
I came across a saying once that grown-up is obsessed with numbers. But aren’t our lives revolving around numbers itself? From the identity NUMBER that we are assigned from birth, the sacred DATE that you were born to the plastic card with the sixteen digit codes that the bank identify you with. Trust me, they only know your name only after you provide them with that set of numbers.
You were usually assigned a register number throughout your entire schooling days and when you are out in society, an employment number. When you ballot for a flat, you are cast into the probability calculation system. So are you not convinced that your entire life IS a number game itself?
Unless there is someone who can tell me an exact number to having too many spectacles and shoes, I am afraid that I may not be throwing out any, for now.
